Cheers to the Classics!

About Us

This whole project started as an idea for a book that we dreamed up many years ago.

The Challenge: how to get modern audiences to try watching classic movies and

appreciate them like we do?

Katie has loved classic movies since she started watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies as a child.  Jill had heard of many classic movies but had seen very few until Katie started watching them.  So, despite the 30 year age gap, Katie and Jill watched and learned about the classics at the same time.  Like so many people in the 1990's, they became huge fans of Robert Osborne, the host of TCM.  Katie and Jill attended the first TCM Classic Film Festival in 2010 and got to witness Eva Marie Saint announcing to the cheers of the assembled crowd in Grauman's Chinese Theater,  "Robert Osborne is a rock star!"  And he truly was.  What we loved about Robert's introductions was that he always made the movies interesting and made you want to watch them.  We hope to be just as informative.

Jill spent the Covid-restricted year reading the entire collection of Photoplay, the most influential magazine of the period, and finding contemporary reviews of all the movies that she considered the most enjoyable of the classic period.   In the Fan Magazine Review section, you can find a selection of reviews and articles from the time of each film.

Katie wanted to add cocktails into the mix to make each movie viewing more of an event.  Rick  took on the role of cocktail historian and mixologist.  We'll mix up a cocktail for each movie that the actors either drink in the film or something that people would have been drinking at the time.  We want to encourage you to take time for a classic movie night -- turn off phones and other distractions, mix yourself a cocktail, and enjoy watching each movie on the biggest screen you have.
